The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, signed the decision to start the construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road. According to the document, a tender will be held in September, and work should begin in December. It is planned to complete the project in 2028 and hand over management to a private operator based on a private-public partnership. Tashkent-Andijan, Samarkand-Bukhara toll roads, and the construction of a tunnel at the Takhtaqoracha pass are also planned.

On August 30, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decision to start the construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road. According to the document, a tender for selecting the best proposals for the construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road will be announced in September of this year.

In December, a contractor will be identified, a contract will be signed with him, and construction will begin. It is planned to complete the works by the end of 2028, and then transfer the management to a private operator based on public-private partnership. The initial cost of the project is 2.2 billion dollars.

It is also planned to build a 303 km Tashkent-Andijan toll road with the support of the World Bank. In May, at the Tashkent International Investment Forum, Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev announced that the cost of the Toll Highway in the direction of Tashkent-Andijan is estimated at 4.65 billion dollars.

The decision stipulates the development and approval of the project concept in October, the first stage of the tender in March 2025, the second stage of the tender in October, the announcement of the winner in April 2026 and the conclusion of a PPP contract with him.

Among the projects in the field of transport is the construction of a $1 billion toll road between Samarkand and Bukhara in 2027-2030.

In addition, the construction of a toll tunnel in the Takhtaqoracha pass is planned . It was assigned to negotiate with potential strategic companies by the end of the year, approve the project concept by August 2025, choose a private partner by February 2026, and sign the PPP contract by December 2026.

The cost of the project is estimated at 100 million dollars. Its length, as previously reported, should be 4.4 km. In October last year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the construction of the tunnel will begin in 2024.
