The Kazakh Duma adopted a resolution on quadrobbing
The Kazakh Duma has passed a resolution following discussions on quadrobbing. While some have dismissed the practice as a hobby or sport, the country's Muslim religious authority has deemed it un-Islamic.
The Religious Board of Muslims of Kazakhstan (QMDB) and theologians argue that walking on all fours degrades human dignity and reduces it to the level of animals. They base their views on a verse from the Quran, Surah "The Fig Tree":
"We created man in the best of forms"
According to theologians, intentionally imitating animal behavior, such as barking like a dog or braying like a donkey, is considered a change in the natural form created by God.
At the same time, the Religious Authority of Muslims of Kazakhstan announced that it does not object to the use of animalistic depictions of human traits in art or literature. For example, comparisons such as being brave like a lion or cunning like a fox were considered permissible. Also, performing in animal costumes is not prohibited.
There have been previous protests against quadrupeding in Russia, with a number of politicians and religious figures calling the move a violation of human dignity.
