The bank of the South Fergana Canal collapsed: about 100 houses were flooded

About 100 homes were flooded after the South Fergana Canal collapsed in Andijan region. The incident was caused by excess water being pumped into the canal to build an additional hydroelectric power station.

On May 8, about 100 homes were flooded in Andijan region due to flooding caused by the collapse of the South Fergana Canal, Uzgidromet reported.

Currently, work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the incident and conduct further investigations. The regional governor has also arrived at the scene.

The man-made incident was reportedly caused by the release of excess water into the canal to build an additional hydroelectric power plant.

The Fire Department clarified that water entered 30 homes and 70 homes' yards.

The Ministry of Water Resources announced that water release from the Andijan reservoir has been suspended to eliminate the emergency situation.
