Nodirjon Turgunov, who worked as the consul general in Jeddah, was appointed as the extraordinary and autonomous ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia.

On March 26, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia, Nodirjon Turgunov, went to Riyadh, "Dunyo" news agency reported.

It is reported that the 49-year-old diplomat graduated from the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies (now Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies). He started his career as a school teacher.

He worked as a translator in private structures, as well as in the Council of Societies of Friendship and Cultural-Educational Relations of Uzbekistan with Foreign Countries. He has been working in the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2016.

During the past years, he worked in various positions in the Consular-Legal Department of the MFA. In 2019-2021, he worked as a consul general in Oktov (Kazakhstan), Uzbekistan, and in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) in 2021-2024.

Nodirjon Turgunov took the place of Ulugbek Maqsudov, who served as the ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia and the permanent representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in 2018-2024.
