"Kazatomprom" and "Tajikistan Rare Metals" ("TajRedMet") signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of mining and processing of uranium, rare and rare earth metals. This was reported by the "Kazatomprom" press service.

The document was signed on August 22 during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev to Tajikistan.

The memorandum envisages strategic cooperation in the mining industry of the two countries. The companies plan to "work together on initiatives such as exploration, mining and processing of uranium and other rare earth metals, research and development, implementation of innovative technologies and training."

"Kazatomprom" is Kazakhstan's national operator for the import and export of uranium, rare metals, and nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants. Since 2009, Kazakhstan has been a world leader in the production of natural uranium. Also, this country has the largest industrial uranium reserves. "Kazatomprom" together with its subsidiaries, branches and joint ventures is developing 26 mines, which are combined into 14 uranium mining enterprises.

"Although it is too early to talk about the exact results, we are focusing on promising joint projects in the uranium industry, as well as rare and rare earth metals, which can be of great benefit to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. We hope that this memorandum will lead to economic growth and high technology in the two countries. It will be the basis for long-term and effective cooperation that will help to develop," said Meirzhan Yusupov, chairman of the board of "Kazatomsanoat".

In the near future, TajRedMet company representatives intend to pay a return visit to Kazakhstan and get acquainted with the production capacities of Kazatomprom. It is noted that this is expected to be an important step in the implementation of joint projects, and it will allow both sides to evaluate their work and consider the possibilities of future cooperation in more detail.
