Tajik citizen deported from Russia for praying at work

Moscow's Lyublinsky District Court has fined Tajik citizen Yakubov AR 40,000 rubles and ordered him to be deported from Russia for praying at work. The court found Yakubov's actions to be contrary to Russian law, describing them as propaganda of religious beliefs and missionary activity.

According to the court, Yakubov performed a prayer at his workplace, located in the "Showroom" store on Tsimlyanskaya Street in Moscow, on January 10, 2024. His actions were found to be in violation of the Federal Law of Russia No. 125 of September 26, 1997 "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations." In particular, according to Part 3 of Article 1, holding religious ceremonies in public places requires special permission.

The court and appeals rulings state that missionary activity is aimed at disseminating information about religious beliefs, and such activity can only be carried out by organizations with special authority. Yakubov's prayer at his workplace was considered such activity.

An appeal against the court's decision was also unsuccessful. The appeals court based its decision on legal norms and found Yakubov's actions to be missionary activities.

According to the court's decision, Yakubov was ordered to pay a fine of 40,000 rubles and be deported from Russia. This case highlights the need for a deeper study of religious freedoms and the impact of legislation on the social environment in Russia.
