Russia reveals what charges it is imprisoning Uzbeks for

60% of Uzbeks in Russian prisons are detained for crimes related to drug trafficking and transportation.

According to Munira Nizomova, an official at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, the number of compatriots imprisoned for crimes of sexual violence (12 percent) is also quite high. Also, 7 percent of those imprisoned were charged with murder, about 5 percent with causing grievous bodily harm, 4 percent with theft, and 3 percent with fraud.

The Foreign Ministry official also tried to justify the hours-long detention of Uzbeks at Russian airports.

"Checks on flights from Uzbekistan at airports are taking a very long time. On average, 6-8 hours. Sometimes there are cases where the checks last 10 or 12 hours. Imagine, women with their children sit at the airport for 12 hours. This is not in vain, is it? This is the negative impact of the actions of our citizens abroad," he said.
