Russia begins paying compensation for downed Azerbaijani plane


The Russian government has announced that it has begun paying compensation for an Azerbaijani plane that crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the insurance company for the Azerbaijan Airlines plane paid 1 billion 3 million rubles. The relatives of the passengers who were injured and died in the crash were also paid 358.4 million rubles (about $4.4 million).
The report states that negotiations are ongoing with the families of the victims to reach a full settlement.

Recall that on December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane flying from Baku to Grozny was shot down in Russian airspace. The plane, which was diverted to Kazakhstan, crashed in Aktau. 38 passengers died in the accident.
