An official meeting with the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokaev was held at the "Aqorda" residence. The main topic of the negotiations was cooperation in the field of energy.
"This is, without exaggeration, a very important event in our interstate relations, which are based on a very strong foundation of strategic partnership and alliance," Tokaev said, noting that Kazakhstan remains a reliable strategic partner of Russia even in difficult times.
It is planned to sign 20 important documents during the visit. "Today we will accept very important documents - these are 20 agreements, which will undoubtedly give an additional strong impetus to the further development of our good neighborliness and cooperation," the President of Kazakhstan said.
In his response, Vladimir Putin noted the successes of bilateral cooperation: "Last year, the volume of trade was about 28.5 billion dollars. The volume of investments in Kazakhstan's economy reached 13 billion dollars. The Russian leader emphasized the development of humanitarian relations and noted that the largest number of foreign students in Russia study from Kazakhstan.
The heads of state discussed the prospects of cooperation in the fields of industry, energy, oil and gas, transport, logistics, as well as education, science and culture. Putin also invited Tokaev to an informal meeting of CIS leaders in St. Petersburg at the end of the year to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II.
On the second day of his visit to Astana, on November 28, Putin will participate in the session of the Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The organization is chaired by Kazakhstan. The General Secretary of the CPSU, Imangali Tasmagambetov, in an interview with the Russian TASS agency, explained what the main topic of the session will be. In particular, the main document - the target interstate program on the development of the Tajik-Afghan border - will be adopted at the meeting of the CSTO Council.
Tasmagambetov noted that the problem of Afghanistan remains one of the priority directions of the organization's activities, taking into account the strategic importance of this area for the security of Central Asia. "The program allows the CSTO countries to jointly strengthen border security and provide an additional level of protection for the countries of the region," said Tasmagambetov.
