On August 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Baku on a two-day state visit. This was reported by the press services of the presidents of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan.

That evening, an informal dinner with the Russian leader was held at the residence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. According to "RIA Novosti", the politicians hugged each other and greeted each other warmly. Putin gave flowers to Mehriban Aliyeva, the first lady of Azerbaijan.

The program of the visit includes talks between Putin and Aliev. "The presidents will exchange views on current issues of regional and international politics, in particular, on the subject of the Azerbaijan-Armenia agreement," the Kremlin said. Prospects for the development of Russian-Azerbaijani relations will also be discussed.

It is planned to adopt a joint statement of the heads of state on the results of the visit and to sign a number of documents.

This is Putin's first visit to Baku since September 2018. The last meeting of the leaders took place in April 2024 in Moscow.

Since the beginning of 2024, Putin has made state visits to Uzbekistan, North Korea and Vietnam , as well as business visits to China, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
