Officials who do not speak the state language will be fined, in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyz deputies approved a draft law on amendments to certain legislative acts on the state language.
According to the new amendments, knowledge of the Kyrgyz language will be mandatory for members of parliament, the chairman and members of the cabinet, judges of the constitutional, supreme and local courts, prosecutors, investigators, the national bank, law enforcement agencies and national security officers.
Another important change is related to the Law "On External Migration". Now, insufficient knowledge of the state language will be grounds for refusing to issue a permanent residence permit in the country.
Individuals who violate language legislation will be fined 5,000 soms (approximately 711,000 soms), and legal entities will be fined 17,000 soms (approximately 2,416,000 soms).
