76 percent of Central Asian migrant workers do not have formal employment contracts, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and violence, according to the Solidarity Center, a global workers' rights organization.
It is noted that Central Asian labor migrants, especially those from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, are facing great difficulties in seeking work abroad. Economic changes and political instability are affecting migration routes. While many workers previously chose Russia, they are now seeking Kazakhstan, Turkey, Germany, and South Korea.
The increasing presence of women and young people among migrant workers exposes them to unique risks, including unpaid overtime, lack of sick leave, and other forms of abuse. This requires these countries to develop safe migration strategies.
