Marine Le Pen is jealous of Imamoğlu
Ekrem İmamoğlu is in prison on charges of corruption, bribery and embezzlement. But he is seen as a political victim. At least in the eyes of his supporters, he has managed to become a hero. Marine Le Pen has not been so lucky. As a politician with a confirmed conviction for corruption, her political future is at stake. Therefore, it is clear that Marine Le Pen is watching Ekrem İmamoğlu with envy. I have no doubt that she is thinking to herself, "I should have been in Turkey at this time . " From an article by journalist Abdulkadir Selvi.
The political fates of Akrom İmamoğlu and French politician Marine Le Pen intersected at an interesting point. Marine Le Pen was found guilty in a long-running corruption case. She will not be able to run in the upcoming presidential election.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, meanwhile, was announced as the JHP 's presidential candidate, but he is currently in custody in a corruption case. If the court finds him guilty, he will not be able to run for president. İmamoğlu's diploma has also been revoked. If this decision is not overturned by the court, İmamoğlu will not be able to apply for the presidency.
CONSIDERED A FAVORITE
Marine Le Pen is the leader of the rising right-wing radical forces. She narrowly lost to Macron in the second round of the last presidential election. She was considered a near certainty to become president in 2027. But she was convicted of corruption and sentenced to prison and banned from politics. In this case, let alone being seen as a leading candidate in the upcoming elections, she may not even be a candidate.
CAMPAIGNS ARE DIFFERENT
The point where the political fates of Imamoglu and Marine Le Pen do not intersect is evident in the campaigns being waged about them.
Ekrem İmamoğlu is in prison on charges of corruption, bribery and embezzlement over some lucrative deals he made with the Istanbul mayor. But he is being treated as a political victim. At least in the eyes of his supporters, he has managed to become a hero.
Marine Le Pen was not so lucky. As a politician with a confirmed conviction for corruption, her political future is in jeopardy. In France, former presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy were also sentenced to prison for corruption, which ended their political careers. It is clear that Marine Le Pen is watching Ekrem İmamoğlu with envy. I have no doubt that she is thinking to herself, "I should have been in Turkey at this time."
BECAME A HERO
For years, we've been told, "Politicians commit suicide in Japan and resign in Europe because of corruption and bribery charges." But when it came to Ekrem İmamoğlu, they were hailed as a hero.
When Marine Le Pen was found guilty of corruption and banned from running for president, I felt sorry for the French. If it were us , we would have called for a demonstration in front of the Eiffel Tower , called for organizations to take to the streets, thrown acid at the police, carried axes , and made Marine Le Pen a hero.
There are "yellow vests" in France too, but either they don't have Akram Imamoglu or they lack Özgür Özl .
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN FRANCE
SARCOZY'S CASE
Nicolas Sarkozy, a proud French president well known to the Turkish people, has found himself in a difficult situation due to bribery allegations. He was sentenced to prison on charges of offering a bribe to a judge for disclosing information in a financial investigation into his party.
Sarkozy is also on trial for allegedly accepting money from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi during his 2007 election campaign, and faces a 10-year prison sentence.
SHIRAK ALSO SENTENCED TO PRISON
Jacques Chirac was one of France's most famous and longest-serving presidents. While mayor of Paris, he was found guilty of paying his party members who were not working. Sentenced to prison at the age of 79, Chirac accepted the decision calmly.
IMAMOGUL 'S CASE
The presumption of innocence is a fundamental principle. The verdict on the cases of Ekrem İmamoğlu and his entourage on charges of corruption, bribery and embezzlement should be awaited. However, it is surprising that İmamoğlu is being portrayed as a hero when he is accused of massive corruption and bribery worth 560 billion liras, suspected of having money sources, and 25 witnesses testifying against him.
MARINE LE PEN CASE
Are the French stupid or is there something wrong with us?
Marine Le Pen narrowly lost the last presidential election. She is considered a leading candidate in 2027. However, she was convicted of embezzling European Union funds as part of a corruption investigation that began a few years ago and sentenced to prison. Therefore, she is not eligible to participate in the next presidential election.
But no one is saying, "They were afraid of Marine Le Pen, they did this to stop her from becoming president."
The French are not taking to the streets for this, and Marine Le Pen is not saying, "They are stopping my candidacy, I am calling you all to the streets."
TWO STRONG LEADERS
Helmut Kohl, who united the two Germanys and left his mark on world politics, and Jacques Chirac, one of the most powerful presidents of France, ended their political careers in the shadows due to corruption charges.
Some European presidents and prime ministers have resigned without being tried, simply because of corruption allegations.
A hero can become a thief, but a thief cannot become a hero.
