KFC and Pizza Hut announce closure of branches in Turkey
KFC and Pizza Hut have announced that they will close all of their restaurants in Turkey. The decision was made after consumers in the country launched a boycott against them. The main reason for the boycott is related to the companies' involvement in and support for Israeli politics.
The boycott is part of a global campaign criticizing the complex political situation in the Middle East and Israel's actions, TRT Russian reported. Sales of KFC and Pizza Hut in Turkey have fallen sharply, well below the global average.
The companies also noted in their statement that the growth in the Turkish market from 2020 to 2023 was 300 percent. However, recent boycotts have made it difficult for restaurant chains to continue operating.
Boycotts against companies that support Israel are becoming increasingly influential in Muslim countries.
