Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister and National Security Committee officials arrested

Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu, businessman Gadzhi Gadzhiev, and several senior officials of the National Security Committee (NSC) have been detained, Orda.kz reported. https://orda.kz/zaderzhany-murat-nurtleu-i-gadzhi-gadzhiev-406302/

The publication writes that Nurtleu was arrested at his home. He had returned from the SCO summit in China the day before. The homes of the minister and Gadzhiev were searched. The publication did not specify the identities of the detained NKVD officers.

Kazakhstan's Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva wrote on social media that unconfirmed reports of the arrest of civil servants were being circulated. However, she did not deny the situation.

"Some official and unofficial channels are spreading unconfirmed information about the arrest of civil servants. It should be remembered that there is an obligation to verify the reliability of this information, the principle of the presumption of innocence, and journalistic ethics," the minister said in a statement.
