The government of Kazakhstan announced the formation of a consortium including up to five state companies in the construction of the NPP. Political risks that may arise during the development of the NPP project are also considered.

The construction of NPP in Kazakhstan is carried out by a consortium of up to five countries. This is reported by Zakon.kz with reference to Roman Sklyar, the country's deputy prime minister.

"The nuclear power plant will not consist of just one object, it will consist of whole structures led by different countries. Therefore, in the design process, the task is to get the best technologies from different countries. Accordingly, various companies - subcontractors - participate in the construction of this station. Such a world experience already exists, because one country builds a nuclear island, another country builds a turbine, and a third country builds protected or closed distribution facilities, etc., - said Sklyar.

"But all of this works well together. We should not stick to one supplier, one contractor, as practice shows, we should create a more effective consortium," Sklyar said .

He informed that political risks that may arise during the development of the project will be considered by the government.

"If such situations arise, the so-called sanctions clause is provided for in contracts concluded with different companies and countries," Sklyar said.

It will be clear who will be a member of the consortium next year, the deputy prime minister added. According to him, it will take one year to prepare the technical and economic basis, and 1.5 years to prepare the project-estimate documents.

"This is the shortest period. Then construction begins. The responsibility is huge, because the safety of the NPP comes first. Of course, the IES and any facility operating in our country must be safe. But safety is a top priority at NPP. Which companies will be from which countries , we still don't know the answer to this question," said Sklyar.

Let us remind you that on October 6, a referendum on the NPP was held in Kazakhstan. According to the voting results, more than 70 percent of voters (5.6 million people) supported the construction of the nuclear power station.
