Have locusts invaded the territories of Uzbekistan?

According to the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, the main swarms of locusts have been detected in Karakalpakstan and five other regions.

It is noted that monitoring was carried out on 875,087 hectares. Locusts were detected on 515,830 hectares. Chemical control measures were carried out on 507,181 hectares.

It was reported that the main activities are continuing in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara, Navoi, Syrdarya and Tashkent regions. Chemical treatments against the saxaul locust are being carried out in the above-mentioned regions.

According to the agency, in 2025, locusts are projected to spread over an area of more than 608,000 hectares in Uzbekistan, of which 99,000 will be in the Surkhandarya region.
