Detainees will now undergo mandatory medical examinations before being placed in pre-trial detention.

According to new amendments to Uzbek legislation, arrested persons will now undergo a mandatory medical examination before being placed in pre-trial detention.

A mandatory medical examination is conducted within 2 hours of the detainee's arrival at the pre-trial detention center. With the detainee's consent, his or her lawyer may also participate in the examination.

A medical certificate of a prescribed form is issued based on the results of the medical examination.

If injuries, bruises, and wounds are discovered on the detainee's body during a medical examination, they are recorded in accordance with the established procedure, the detainee is informed about this, and the prosecutor is immediately notified.
