Cooperation with the US for the safe deportation of citizens - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that it is cooperating with the United States to ensure the safety of citizens being deported from the United States to various countries. In particular, the American side has been asked for information about Uzbeks being sent to Costa Rica and Panama.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan is working closely with relevant American law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe deportation of citizens illegally present in the United States, said Akhror Burkhanov, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He noted that, in accordance with bilateral agreements, the United States promptly informs about each case of Uzbeks being deported. Citizens, in accordance with established practice, return home via the New York-Tashkent route.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commented on recent media reports that Uzbek citizens may be deported from the United States to Latin American countries, in particular, Panama and Costa Rica.
Our diplomatic missions have appealed to the American side with a request to provide information about the possible deportation of Uzbeks to other countries, Burkhanov wrote.
He added that contacts have also been established with Latin American countries in this regard through diplomatic channels.
Recall that on February 20, 200 migrants (citizens of Central Asia and India) who illegally crossed the US border were sent to Costa Rica. The Costa Rican government announced that the process will be fully funded by the US government and will be carried out under the supervision of the UN's International Organization for Migration.
Previously, videos circulated on social media showing the US putting illegal immigrants on planes with their hands and feet handcuffed.
