How to spend the Baraat night?
It is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him):
"When the night of the middle of Sha'ban comes, spend the night awake and fast the day. For then Allah descends to the lowest heaven at sunset and says:
He will say, "Is there anyone who asks for forgiveness? I will provide for him. Is there anyone who is afflicted with a calamity? I will provide for him. Where is so-and-so, where is the one who wears the robe?" Until it is like this until dawn ."
Narrated by Ibn Majah.
A great companion like Hazrat Ali would not have said such an important thing on his own. Of course, he heard something about it from our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and expressed what he heard in his own words.
According to this narration, both the night and day of the middle of Sha'ban are great and blessed times.
For this reason, it is necessary to try to spend the day fasting and the night in vigil prayer, following the recommendations of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
"I lost the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one night. Then I went out to look for him. I saw him standing in Al-Baqi', raising his head towards the sky:
He said , "O Aisha, do you fear that Allah and His Messenger will turn away from you?"
"I suspected you had gone to see some of your women," I said.
"Indeed, Allah descends to the lowest heaven on the night of the middle of Sha'ban and forgives more sins than the number of wool on the sheep of the heart ."
Narrated by Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi and Ahmad.
Al-Baqi' is a famous cemetery in Medina. All the companions who died in Medina are buried in this cemetery. There is no other cemetery in Medina.
"Kalb" is a famous Arab tribe, and at that time, the Bani Kalb tribe had the largest number of sheep. Our Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned that in the middle of the month of Sha'ban, Allah Almighty forgives many sins, and that the number of sheep's wool was more than the number of sheep.
If we think about it, it is difficult to count the number of wool fibers in a single sheep. Imagine how many wool fibers the sheep of the tribe with the largest number of sheep among the Arab tribes would have. This is a sign that that night was very virtuous.
Benefits of this hadith:
1. The possibility of entering the cemetery at night and looking up at the sky.
2. Our mother Aisha had a tendency to be jealous. This is shown by her searching for our Prophet, saying that he must have gone to some of his wives. This is not a fault, but a natural state. Perhaps, if it is within the norm, it is also a woman's adornment.
3. The Prophet (peace be upon him) understood the mental state of our mother Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).
4. The night of the middle of Sha'ban is a virtuous night.
5. Many sins are forgiven on this night.
6. The need to stay awake during the middle of Sha'ban and engage in prayer, seeking forgiveness, and supplication.
It is narrated from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him):
"The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Allah looks at the night of the middle of Sha'ban and forgives all of His creatures, except for the polytheist and the quarrelsome ."
Narrated by Ibn Majah and Ahmad.
Benefits of this hadith:
1. The night of the middle of Sha'ban is virtuous.
2. On this night, Allah looks down upon His creation and forgives all their sins.
3. That polytheism and enmity are very bad things.
Therefore, when the month of Sha'ban is half full, one should pray and enjoy the promised rewards and forgiveness. At such a virtuous time, one should stay away from polytheism and enmity, which prevent the forgiveness of sins.
Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq Muhammad Yusuf, may God have mercy on him
Note! This night, the night between the 14th and 15th of Sha'ban, is one of the most virtuous nights, the Night of Baraat. (In the Gregorian calendar, it corresponds to the night between the 13th and 14th of February 2024, God willing).
