"The Carnation and the Thorn" – Yahya Sinwar (story, part 46)

No matter how much the civil war, which was the main component of the resistance forces in Lebanon, escalated, the presence of Palestinian resistance forces in Lebanon remained a strong threat to Israel. In particular, the occasional Katyusha rocket attacks by the resistance forces on the occupied territories in northern Palestine, especially the attacks on the Kiryat Shmona region, were causing serious stress. The Israeli government, taking advantage of the assassination of one of its prominent figures in Europe, gathered its army in the territory bordering Lebanon under the leadership of Menachem Begin and Defense Minister Sharon. Thus began its invasion of Lebanon.
Some thought that this military campaign would be just a few kilometers to repel the Katyushas. Even Beginning himself thought so. But Sharon brought the Israeli army into the heart of Lebanon. He even surrounded Beirut. Fearing that the Israeli invasion, under the pretext of destroying the opposition forces, could also capture Beirut and that tens of thousands of civilians would be killed, the opposition forces, led by a number of mediators, decided to leave Lebanon. Indeed, all the armed Palestinians returned from Lebanon. The areas where the Palestinians lived - the camps - were left unprotected, without coordination, without agreements with Lebanon and Israel. At that time, they carried out a massacre in the Sabra and Shatila camps. Hundreds of Palestinian men, women and children were killed. It was one of the most brutal massacres of that time. The news coming through the mass media seriously aggravated the situation in the occupied territories. Because this massacre was so severe and brutal that every Palestinian home in the occupied territories had a father, a child, or a first-degree relative in those camps in Lebanon. These poor people were forced to live with one grief after another, one worry after another. No matter who you look at, you will see a painful human story. A mother who could not receive any news about her children, children who could not know the whereabouts of their parents, a woman who could not know the whereabouts of her husband, all of them were living images of painful experiences.

We recently held a very large demonstration. All the demonstrators forgot their differences and affiliations and united. At that time, we encountered the occupying military who were passing through the street in front of the university. We pelted them with an unprecedented hail of stones. They also threw bullets and tear gas at us. Several of our students were injured and taken to the Dorush-Shifa hospital.

As for the city of Khalil, the occupations were intensifying. Every Saturday, the settlers would take possession of a new house and evict its residents. The military, however, would help and protect this atrocity. These actions were met with outrage from the residents.
At that time, three young men from the "Fath" movement planned to organize a suicide operation in the center where the aliens had settled. This operation was aimed at the invading aliens and the soldiers protecting them. Despite the tight control, they managed to arm themselves. After acquiring special weapons, they began to search for a target with long-range surveillance that could cause greater damage to the invading enemy. Finally, they chose to attack the building where the military and aliens were located in the center of the occupied lands. They carefully climbed through the cemetery adjacent to the building and climbed the wall of the building. Then they threw the grenades in their hands and began to shoot. Screams and shouts were heard from all sides. The invading soldiers were unable to respond to these attackers for a long time. After a while, a large force arrived to explore the area and take away the wounded and dead. There are different accounts of how many people died. In any case, their number was undoubtedly not small. After that, a quarantine was imposed in the city, and an investigation and search began to find the perpetrators. In addition, the forces of destruction also worked together. The quarantine lasted for several days.

The occupying forces imposed additional laws in the city. The Ibrahimi Mosque was permanently closed except for Fridays. Only a special courtyard was left open for devout visitors. They allowed their chairs and candles into the Yusuf Hall. Religious Jews remained inside the mosque with their prayer equipment, while soldiers guarded them day and night. Roads were also closed. Houses were demolished. Pressure on the people increased. The number of soldiers checking the documents of everyone passing by increased. Searches were carried out on people and their shops on every street. The lives of ordinary people became a real hell. The inhabitants felt like they were suffocating to death from the actions of the occupiers and visitors.
