Zelensky and Trump's meeting ended in disagreement

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not go as smoothly as expected. During the meeting, Zelensky responded to Trump's comments on the Ukraine conflict.

Zelensky responded to Trump's statement that "people are dying in the war," saying, "Ukraine did not start this war. They (Russia) attacked us, they came to us, they must stop."

Trump, meanwhile, has argued that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is going in the wrong direction, saying "it could lead to World War III." He said Ukraine must compromise for peace, because "no deal is going to be without compromise."

The debate over European aid

During the meeting, a dispute also arose over the assistance provided by European countries to Ukraine. Zelensky emphasized that Europe had provided a lot of assistance to Ukraine, while Trump said that the United States had provided less assistance. The dispute ended with the following dialogue:

Zelensky: "Europe really helped..."

Trump: "Really? They helped less."

Zelensky: "No."

Trump: "Less."

Zelensky: "No"

Trump: "Okay" (gestures with hand).

Zelensky demanded defense guarantees from the United States

Zelensky stressed that guarantees are needed to establish peace, and that Russia will attack again without them. "Russia has violated the terms of the ceasefire 25 times. Putin treats Ukrainians with hatred and believes that Ukraine as a nation does not exist," he said.

Zelensky left the meeting early

A press conference between Trump and Zelensky was canceled due to a disagreement. Zelensky left the Oval Office early, Reuters reported.

Trump: "Zelensky is not ready for peace"

After the meeting, Trump said Zelensky had behaved inappropriately in the White House and was disrespectful to the United States. "He thinks our presence gives him an advantage in the negotiations. I don't need an advantage, I need peace," he said.

Criticism and consequences

Trump's reaction to Zelensky has been met with mixed reactions. Elon Musk said the incident had destroyed Zelensky in the eyes of the American people. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Trump had given Zelensky a "real lesson" and said, "This is not enough, we need to stop military aid to Ukraine."

Fox News also reported that a deal expected to be signed between the United States and Ukraine on precious metals has also been canceled.
