According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), US officials have announced that Israel has begun implementing a plan to pour seawater into the Hamas tunnels in Gaza .

Officials informed that the process of pouring sea water into the tunnels, which is expected to last for weeks, will be carried out with 7 separate pumping systems.

According to the report , the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Israel refused to comment on this issue and said that the operations carried out in the tunnels are secret.

On the other hand, some officials who spoke to the newspaper earlier said that putting seawater into the tunnels would pollute Gaza's fresh water sources and damage infrastructure.

While some US officials expressed concern about the plan, some officials said the US supported deactivating the tunnels and would not oppose the plan.

Israel claims to have identified about 800 tunnels, but the tunnel network is much larger than it is known to be.

Relatives of Israeli prisoners held by Hamas reacted to the plan to fill the tunnels with sea water.

Relatives of some Israeli women and prisoners released from the Gaza Strip have protested to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu against the Israeli army's plan to "pour water" into the tunnels where the prisoners are kept.

According to reports of Walla and Ynet sites on December 6, a woman who was recently released but whose husband is still being held captive in Gaza, during a meeting with the government , expressed her displeasure with the army's plan to " pour sea water" into the tunnels where prisoners are kept in Gaza .

Earlier, the representative of Hamas stated that this Israeli plan would not work because the tunnels were dug independently of each other.
