Who is behind the terrorist attack in Magdeburg?
The terrorist attack on Christmas market attendees in Magdeburg, Germany, was carried out by Taleb Al Abdulmohsen, a 50-year-old psychiatrist and refugee from Saudi Arabia who reportedly moved to Germany in 2006.
Social media posts show him to be an Islamophobe and a fanatical Zionist who supports Greater Israel and the far-right AfD party. He has also accused the German government of not doing enough to combat Islam.
In a 2019 interview with the FAZ newspaper, he said he was an atheist and called himself "the most ruthless opponent of Islam in history."
Some of his posts:
"Believe me, one hundred percent revenge is coming soon, whether it's my life or not, Germany will pay a heavy price," it said.
If Germany wants war, they will get what they want, if they want to kill us, we will kill them, die with pride or go to prison.
Saudi Arabia is seeking him on charges of terrorism and human trafficking, specifically organizing the transfer of girls from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to European Union countries.
Despite the charges, Germany granted him political asylum and refused to extradite him to Saudi Arabia.
