US stops funding some projects in Uzbekistan

The US Department of Labor has canceled funding for a project aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in Uzbekistan's cotton industry, a US official said on his X network page.

According to Minister Lori Chavez-Deremer, several international grants totaling more than $38 million have been suspended at the direction of the White House.

In addition to Uzbekistan, these funds were also allocated to projects in Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Guatemala, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Uzbekistan project was launched in 2022, and to date, $2 million in grants have been allocated to agriculture. Another $1 million was planned to be allocated this year.
