US orders Meta, Microsoft, TikTok and X to fight anti-Semitism
The US has ordered Meta, Microsoft, TikTok and X to fight anti-Semitism
The US special envoy on anti-Semitism met with Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok and X to urge them to step up efforts to limit anti-Semitic content on their platforms. It also asked each company to train key employees to curb anti-Semitic content. It is said that the companies have not yet agreed to the requirements of the US government.
Last week, representatives from Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Tik Tok and X met with Deborah Lipstadt, the US special representative on anti-Semitism, to discuss monitoring and countering anti-Semitic rhetoric, according to Bloomberg.
At the same time, the US government did not define what constitutes a clear manifestation of anti-Semitism: earlier, the American police arrested students for any criticism of the actions of the Israeli authorities in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
The official also asked each company to appoint a policy team to address the issue, and train key staff to identify anti-Semitism and curb anti-Semitic content.
According to the publication, the companies have not yet agreed to the requirements of the US government.
The administration is also asking the internet giants to train employees to identify more sensitive anti-Semitic messages on online platforms and distinguish between criticism of the Israeli government and hatred directed at Jews, Lipstadt said.
"We welcomed this meeting and were excited to meet to share facts about the current steps TikTok is taking on this important issue and to continue learning from industry experts," a TikTok spokesperson said.
According to Bloomberg, since the start of Israel's invasion of Gaza, anti-Semitism has increased in various countries around the world.
At the same time, in some states, the police act excessively brutally. For example, law enforcement agencies prosecute Internet users for postings accusing the Israeli government of committing genocide in Gaza or for spreading news from Palestinian news sites.
Earlier, human rights activists and journalists stated that Meta deliberately reduces the publication of pro-Palestinian content on its feeds.
