US increases tariffs on Chinese goods to 104%

The US government has announced that it has increased tariffs on goods imported from China to 104 percent, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said.

The new tariffs officially came into effect today.

Analysts are calling the decision a real confirmation of the trade war between the United States and China. Earlier, Trump said that if China does not remove the 34 percent retaliatory tariffs it has imposed on American goods, an additional 50 percent tariff will be imposed.

A White House spokesman said Trump is open to making a deal with China, but Beijing has not yet made any such move. It was noted that the United States could show "unusually generosity" if China enters into negotiations.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "The US policy of imposing pressure through tariffs is absolutely wrong and we firmly oppose it."

Experts believe that the escalation of the US-China trade war could have a negative impact on the global economy, as it would lead to higher prices and chain reactions.
