Turkmenistan supplies half of Iraq's gas needs

Turkmenistan will begin exporting gas to Iraq through a swap mechanism with Iran. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Energy, 20 million cubic meters of methane will be imported from Turkmenistan per day. This will cover 50 percent of the country's gas needs for electricity generation.

Gas supplies are carried out through Iranian companies. Currently, Iraq receives its main resource from Iran due to gas shortages. At the same time, a program has been launched in partnership with the French company Total Energies to expand local oil and gas production.

Iraq is planning to implement projects to replace Iranian gas with domestically produced petroleum gas in order to reduce its dependence on natural gas imports.
