Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus allows headscarves in schools
Authorities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have officially allowed middle and high school students to wear the hijab in schools , Alturist reports, citing reliable sources.
The report states that following a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on this issue, relevant amendments were made to the disciplinary regulations governing dress codes in educational institutions.
According to it, the authority to make decisions on the issue of the hijab in secondary schools will now be transferred to the school administration, and at the lyceum (higher grades) level, wearing the hijab will be officially permitted.
The country's Ministry of Education also determines the permitted colors, shapes, and sizes of the hijab and ensures their compliance with school uniform standards, the message says.
It should be noted that last week, high school girls in Northern Cyprus were not allowed to attend classes wearing the hijab. In particular, a female student at the Irsen Kuchuk High School in Lefkosa was not allowed to attend classes because she was wearing the hijab.
This caused serious dissatisfaction among about 13,000 Turkish Cypriot refugees, forcing the government to seek a positive solution in this regard.
