The Supreme Electoral Council of Tunisia announced the preliminary results of the presidential elections held on October 6. Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council Faruk Buasker announced at a press conference that Said received 90.69 percent of the votes.

Among the other candidates, the leader of the People's Movement, Zuhayr al-Magzawi, received 1.97 percent of the votes, and businessman Ayashi Zamal, who started his political life as a deputy from the Yashasin Tunis party in 2020, received 7.35 percent of votes.

Qais Said, a constitutional professor, was elected president for the first time in the 2019 elections.

One of the candidates, Zamal, took part in the election from prison due to an ongoing trial on charges of "making false statements".

The participation rate in the elections boycotted by the opposition was 28.8 percent.

At a press conference after yesterday's elections, Buasker said that 2 million 808 thousand 548 people voted out of a total of 9 million 753 thousand 217 voters abroad and in the country.

Buasker said that the turnout in the presidential elections was 28.8 percent.

The Ennahda Movement, one of the country's leading political parties, especially the opposition National Liberation Front, also assessed that there was "no proper democratic environment" for the election process.
