Trump proposes relocating Gaza residents to Arab countries
US President Donald Trump has proposed resettling Palestinian refugees forced to flee the Gaza Strip in Arab countries. DW reports that Trump spoke with Jordanian King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi about the issue.
"I told the King of Jordan to take in more people. I'm likening the Gaza Strip to chaos. I think order should be restored there and people should be resettled," Trump said.
He also said he was planning to speak with the Egyptian leader and expressed his intention to ask the country to accept the Gazans.
The US president mentioned a plan to resettle up to 1.5 million Palestinians in Arab countries. At the same time, Trump thanked the King of Jordan for his country's work in accepting refugees.
Egyptian authorities have refused to accept Gaza refugees, citing the country's economic problems and internal social situation as reasons.
The majority of the population of the Gaza Strip are refugees forced to flee their homes due to the conflict. Before the war, the region was home to about 2.4 million people.
