The West, represented by the United States, Great Britain and France, blocked the draft statement of the UN Security Council prepared by Russia in connection with the assassination of the head of the Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniya in the capital of Iran. Iran's Permanent Representative Amir Said Iravani announced that the document will be blocked at the UN Security Council meeting.

The diplomat said that Russia offered to issue a press statement condemning "Israel's barbaric act". However, Americans, British and French voted against it.

Iravani reiterated that Israel and the United States are to blame for the death of the Palestinian politician. A number of countries, including Russia and China, strongly condemned Hania's killing and warned that it risks further escalation in the Middle East region.

Earlier, the mass media reported that the Israeli army received an order from the supreme leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to strike directly at Israel in response to Haniya's murder.
