The US has temporarily suspended almost all foreign aid payments

The US State Department has frozen all foreign aid payments to countries other than Israel and Egypt for 90 days, Reuters and Politico reported.

The cable, approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, said new payments and commitments for foreign aid grants were temporarily suspended. The decision was made in response to US President Donald Trump's directive to review foreign aid funds to ensure they are aligned with his foreign policy.

According to the telegram, military funding for Israel and Egypt will continue. Israel receives approximately $3.3 billion in foreign aid annually, while Egypt receives $1.3 billion.

Reuters reported that for now, no new aid commitments should be made until Marco Rubio makes a decision on the results of the review. However, emergency food aid and legitimate expenditures made before the guidance was issued can be made.

Recall that after the inauguration, US President Donald Trump signed more than 200 executive orders suspending all US foreign programs for 90 days, withdrawing from the WHO and the Paris climate agreements, and requiring the federal government to recognize only two immutable genders - male and female.
