The 24th summit of the leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization began in Astana under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan. Heads of state and government of 16 countries are participating in the SCO+ format summit.

The leaders of Turkey, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the UAE and Turkmenistan are also participating in the summit as observers and dialogue partners.

A number of international organizations, including the UN, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Commission, etc. provided.

The main agenda of the summit held under the slogan "Strengthening multilateral dialogue: striving for sustainable peace and development" will be to strengthen the role of the SCO in solving current international and regional problems.

Leaders intend to focus primarily on international trade and the economy to ensure stability. Regional security, infrastructure, energy, ecology, health, tourism, education, digitization, transport and logistics issues will also be discussed at the summit.

At the end of the summit, more than 20 documents related to various fields were issued, including the Astana Declaration, which expressed the position of the SCO on current international and regional problems and prospective studies, as well as the "Strategy for the development of the SCO until 2035 " and the strategy for the development of energy cooperation of the SCO until 2030. is planned to be accepted.

The fight against terrorism will be one of the important topics on the summit agenda. The event will discuss the "2025-2027 cooperation program for combating terrorism, separatism and extremism" and the "2024-2029 SCO anti-narcotics strategy".

Belarus became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The relevant decision was signed at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states held in Astana.

Thus, Belarus became the tenth full-fledged member of the SCO. India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have the same status in the organization.

The leaders of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, who founded the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, met for the first time in 1996 in Shanghai and signed an agreement to ensure the stability of the border between Russia and China.

Initially, the organization was called "Shanghai Five" , but after Uzbekistan became a member of the organization in 2001 , it received the name of Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In 2017, India and Pakistan joined the organization, and later Iran.

Observer countries in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are Mongolia and Afghanistan, dialogue partners are Turkey, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Armenia, Cambodia, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar , Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The main goals of the SCO include strengthening mutual trust between member states, developing cooperation to maintain peace, security and stability in the region, joint fight against terrorism, development of economic cooperation and expansion of cultural cooperation.

The General Secretariat of the SCO operates in Beijing, and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Organization operates in Tashkent.

After the summit, the chairmanship of the SCO will be transferred to China.
