The Iraqi army has taken full control of the city of Sinjar
The Iraqi army has announced that it has taken full control of the city of Sinjar, which is located in the Mosul region and has become a stronghold of the Kurdistan Internal Party (PKK) terrorist organization, and has completely controlled the area up to the Syrian border. With the establishment of peace and security in the region, about 11,000 residents returned to their homes.
The Iraqi army has taken full control of the city of Sinjar, which has become a stronghold of the Kurdistan Internal Party (PKK) terrorist organization in the Mosul region, the IHA agency reports. Major General Ali Fazil Imran, Commander of Western Operations in Mosul, said in a statement that Iraqi forces had gained control of areas stretching from the city of Sinjar to the Syrian border.
Noting that the Iraqi army, police, border troops and Hashd al-Shaabi forces have established full control over a 265-kilometer area within the borders of Mosul province on the Syrian border, Imran noted that the security level in Sinjar is high. It was noted that after the establishment of stability, more than 11 thousand families returned to districts and villages.
The PKK captured Sinjar, about 120 kilometers west of Mosul, from IS militants in 2015 following an operation backed by US-led coalition forces. Thousands of families who were forced to leave the city due to the unrest in the region are still living in camps.
