The Colombian government agreed to Trump's demands

The Colombian government has accepted all of President Donald Trump's conditions after the United States imposed economic pressure and threatened a 25 percent tariff. One of those conditions is to "unconditionally" accept Colombian migrants deported from the United States.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro had previously banned military planes carrying Colombians deported from the United States from landing, refusing to "receive them as criminals." Petro had suggested repatriating them on civilian planes, stressing the need to create decent conditions for the migrants.

But Trump's swift and harsh response has affected Colombia's position. The US president has imposed a 25% tariff on all goods from Colombia, which he has said could eventually rise to 50%. He has also canceled visas and imposed travel restrictions on Colombian government officials and their families.

Since Colombia's economy is heavily dependent on trade with the United States, the government decided to accept Trump's demands in order to resolve the situation. Trade between the United States and Colombia amounted to $53.5 billion in 2022. While US exports to Colombia reached $28.7 billion, imports from Colombia amounted to $24.8 billion.
