The British artist was stripped of the prize because of his position on Palestine

A British artist has been stripped of an award from a German foundation after signing an open letter calling for a boycott of Israeli cultural organizations. "We do not work with Israeli cultural organizations that are complicit in Palestinian oppression or remain silent against it," he said in a public letter he signed.
A British artist was deprived of a prize from a German foundation after signing an open letter calling for a boycott of Israeli cultural organizations, Arab News reports.
James Bridle, who lives in Athens, announced in June that he would receive this year's Schelling Foundation Award for "outstanding contributions to architectural theory." However, it was revealed on Sunday that the artist, along with thousands of other interested people, had been stripped of the prize and an accompanying €10,000 prize for signing the letter.
"We do not work with Israeli cultural organizations that are complicit in or remain silent against Palestinian oppression," Bridle said in a statement posted on LitHub.
"We respect the right to express political views, we do not accuse James Bridle of anti-Semitism, but the foundation does not support the cultural isolation of Israel and does not want to break with it," said the response of the Schelling Foundation for Architecture.
The fund's decision comes after the Bundestag passed a controversial resolution in which the German parliament "reaffirms its commitment to ensure that no organization or project spreads anti-Semitism or calls into question Israel's right to exist, calls for boycotts of Israel, or actively supports boycotts.
It should be noted that the Schelling Architecture Foundation is named after Erich Schelling, who was an active member of the Nazi Party from 1937 to 1945.
