Taliban reacts to International Court of Justice prosecutor's accusations
The Taliban interim government in Afghanistan has condemned the decision of International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan to request arrest warrants for leader Haibatullah Akhundzada and Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
The Taliban's foreign ministry said in a statement that the UN should stop imposing its "own interpretation" of human rights on the world. The statement described the organization's actions as a denial of the religious and national values of the Afghan people.
"The UN should not impose its own interpretation of human rights on the world, nor deny the values of other peoples," the statement said.
The ministry also called these actions by the CJS "illegal" and assessed them as a factor that undermines the organization's already weak reputation.
International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan previously charged Haibatullah Akhundzada and Abdul Hakim Haqqani with persecuting Afghan girls and women, as well as individuals who oppose gender equality. He believes that this persecution has been ongoing since at least August 15, 2021.
