Syria's new leadership pays official visit to UAE

A delegation led by the acting Foreign Minister of the Syrian interim government, Asad Hassan al-Shibani, has paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The visit is expected to discuss prospects for cooperation and coordination between the countries.

The delegation also includes Acting Defense Minister Murkhaf Abu Qasra and General Intelligence Chief Anas Hassan Khattab.

The visit was the third high-level delegation the UAE has hosted since the change of power in Syria. The delegation recently held talks in Qatar with Emirati Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and previously with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

A Syrian delegation is planning to visit Jordan in the coming days.

Earlier, on January 3, German and French Foreign Ministers Annalena Baerbock and Jean-Noël Barrot visited Damascus and met with the acting Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Shar. They stressed the European Union's support for a peaceful and inclusive transition of power in Syria.
