Syria's Central Bank to be headed by first woman

Yesterday, December 30, Maysa Sabrin was appointed as the head of the Central Bank of Syria. In this historic decision, she became the first woman to hold this position in the country, Al-Arabiya TV reported.

It is noted that Meysa Sabrin has extensive experience in the banking sector. She previously served as Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of the Central Bank. She has also been a Central Bank representative on the Board of Directors of the Damascus Stock Exchange since 2018.

Sabrin's appointment to this position is in line with calls from the international community to give women more opportunities in social and political spheres in Syria.

Also earlier this month, another important event took place in Syria: Aisha al-Dibas was appointed Minister of Women's Affairs, becoming the first woman to hold a ministerial position in the Syrian government.
