Syria refuses to print money in Russia

Syria plans to print banknotes in the UAE and Germany, after cooperating with Russia for more than 10 years.

The country's authorities plan to establish cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Germany in this regard.

The Syrian government has been exploring the possibility of printing banknotes in the UAE and Germany for some time.

Efforts in this direction were particularly active after the European Union eased sanctions against Damascus in February 2025.

Currently, two German companies have expressed interest in printing Syrian pounds.

The new Syrian authorities also plan to change the design of the pounds, including removing the portrait of former President Bashar Assad from the banknotes.
