Switzerland bans veils and burqas

In Switzerland, the ban on veils and burqas in public places will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

The ban was approved by a narrow margin in a 2021 referendum in Switzerland.

Violation of this ban can result in a fine of up to $1,144.

The ban does not apply to airplanes, diplomatic or consular offices, and the face covering can also be covered in mosques and other holy places, the government official added.

For health and safety reasons, as well as local customs and inclement weather, face coverings are permitted. In addition, they can be used for artistic and entertainment events and advertising purposes.
