Bernie Sanders, a member of the US Senate and an independent candidate from the state of Vermont, said that Israel is "losing the war" in the eyes of the world community due to its attacks on Palestinian civilians.

"So far they (Israeli forces) have destroyed more than half of the houses in the Gaza Strip. It is difficult to say in advance, but in general, I believe that the battle will be won, but the war will be lost. Israel is losing the war from the point of view of how the world community evaluates the situation," the senator clarified.

The lawmaker said Israel "has the right to defend itself" from H AMAS, but it "cannot continue waging war against the Palestinian people, inflicting terrible casualties on civilians as it is now".

Sanders called on US leaders to use all means of pressure at their disposal to persuade Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to end this deadly military approach .

According to him, it would be irresponsible for the United States to give another $10 billion to Nigeria to continue fighting in Gaza .

Sanders also expressed hope that the United States would someday support a UN resolution for a cease-fire between Israel and Palestine. The senator said that this would allow the release of hostages and the delivery of "a large amount of humanitarian aid" to the exclave.

Let us remind you that on December 8, Washington vetoed the next resolution of the UN Security Council calling for peace in the conflict zone in the Middle East. 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the draft, while the United Kingdom abstained from the vote. This is the second resolution blocked by the US since October 7. The White House insists that Israel has the right to continue the war in Gaza .
