Saudi Arabia introduces mandatory meningitis vaccination for pilgrims
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health is introducing mandatory vaccination against meningococcal meningitis for all pilgrims arriving in the country from February 1, 2025. This decision was made due to the high risk of spreading the infection.
Vaccination requirements apply to any traveler traveling for Hajj and Umrah, regardless of visa type or purpose. A certificate of vaccination with one of the following vaccines is required:
Quadruple Neisseria vaccine
Polysaccharide vaccine
Conjugate vaccine
Vaccination conditions:
If you are vaccinated with the quadrivalent vaccine, you should get vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.
The certificate of vaccination with the polysaccharide vaccine must not be older than 3 years.
The certificate of vaccination with the conjugate vaccine must not be older than 5 years.
Vaccination is not mandatory for children under one year old.
