Saudi Arabia bans televised Taraweeh prayers

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance has issued new guidelines prohibiting the use of cameras in mosques to record the imam and congregation during prayers, including Taraweeh prayers during the month of Ramadan. The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) also announced a complete ban on broadcasting prayers on any media platform, including social media.

The ministry's statement emphasized that these measures were taken to preserve the spiritual atmosphere of mosques and prevent situations that could distract worshipers. Imams and preachers are strongly advised to strictly follow these instructions and teach the congregation the rules of proper behavior in mosques.

The ministry also reminded that fundraising for iftars is not allowed in mosques. If iftars are approved, they should be held only under the supervision of the relevant authorities, in specially designated areas, in compliance with all safety and hygiene standards. These restrictions are aimed at ensuring order and maintaining mosques as places of sincere worship, free from external influences and undesirable activities.
