Easter day

Russian youth are turning away from Christianity

In Russia, it was reported that the influence of Christianity on Russian youth is decreasing. At the same time, the number of young Russians who believe in Islam is 8 times higher than that of the older generation.

Among Russian youth, the number of people who do not believe in religion is growing sharply. Only 10% of respondents aged 55 and older consider themselves to be non-religious, while in the generation under 35, this result is 28%.

This is confirmed by the data of the VTsIOM survey (note required) published on the day of the Orthodox Easter.

The survey showed a significant increase in the number of young Russians who believe in Islam compared to the older generation: 8 times as many Zumers (whom) consider themselves Muslims.

At the same time, there is an increase in the number of Muslims and atheists among the zoomers and millennials (note).

Only 38% of Russian Zomers and 45% of Millennials identify themselves as Orthodox Christians, which is 2 times less than the "stagnation" generations (55 and older).

There is also a sharp increase in the number of people who do not believe in religion among the youth of Russia. If only 10% of respondents aged 55 and older consider themselves "non-believers", in the generation under 35 this result is 28%.

Only 42% of Russian citizens believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and 32% had difficulty answering the question.
