Russian forces carried out airstrikes on a nursing home and energy sector in the Ukrainian city of Sumy on Thursday. This was reported by the Ukrainian authorities.

It is noted that a five-story building was bombed in the afternoon during Russian strikes in the city of Sumy in the north of the country. One person died, 12 were injured, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports on Telegram.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, rescuers are investigating whether people are trapped under the rubble.

Zelensky said in a video message overnight that Russia had launched 90 guided bomb attacks in the past 24 hours.

He also said that Ukrainian forces "managed to reduce the offensive potential of the occupiers in the Donetsk region", but the situation remains critical in the most heavily attacked areas, near the cities of Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces captured the village of Georgievka, east of Kurakhovo.

This week, Russian forces launched several attacks on the Sumy region's power grids, cutting off power in some areas and forcing authorities to use backup power systems.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that there were power outages in 10 regions due to airstrikes and technological reasons.

In a sign of its concern, the European Union said that a fuel-fired power plant in Lithuania is being dismantled for reconstruction in Ukraine and that electricity exports will also increase.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine said Russia's attacks violated international humanitarian law, endangered essential services such as water and heat, and threatened public health, education and the economy.

Kiev notes that targeting energy systems is a war crime, and the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for four Russian officials and military officers for bombing civilian energy infrastructure.

Moscow, on the other hand, claims that the energy infrastructure is a legitimate military target and considers these accusations insignificant.
