The German House of Representatives has voted to ban the red inverted triangle used by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, to display their insignia in their videos. The opposition parties criticized this initiative, saying that such bans are inappropriate, and that red triangles have been used by various organizations for many years, and the new procedure automatically turns them into criminals.

The German House of Representatives has voted to ban the red inverted triangle used by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, in their videos.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) have tabled an urgent motion to ban the red inverted triangle used by Hamas as a symbol to display its insignia. This initiative received a majority of votes in the plenary session of the German parliament.

Burkard Dregger, representative of the internal policy of the XDI faction, said that the goal is to ban the use of this symbol by the Berlin administration.

SPD's Martin Matz said Hamas uses the symbol to target people and the triangle ban is justified for good reasons.

However, he did not mention that only Israeli soldiers, military personnel and vehicles are seen as targets in Palestinian resistance videos.

On the other hand, the opposition parties - the Greens, the Left and the far-right AfD - did not support the initiative .

The Green Party's Wassily Franco said the blanket bans did not fall within the scope of the rights to freedom of assembly and expression.

Similarly, the leftist Niklas Schrader has argued that such bans are inappropriate and that symbols are ineffective in politics .

He added that the red triangle has a long history and is used by other organizations, making them automatically criminal .
