Putin says it is necessary to tighten requirements for migrants coming to Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the need to tighten requirements for migrants from Central Asia during his December 19 broadcast of the "Year in Review with Vladimir Putin" program. He said migrants must respect the culture and laws of the places they live in Russia.
Putin noted the need to establish a special education system to help migrants learn the Russian language and culture. To this end, he proposed opening Russian schools and establishing cultural centers in Central Asian countries.
"The population of Central Asia must be prepared to work in Russia. It is important for them to know the Russian language and understand the culture," the Russian president said.
The President also touched upon the problem of labor shortage in Russia. It was noted that today the number of vacancies in the country is in the hundreds of thousands. At the same time, he stressed the need to increase labor productivity and focus on high-tech industries in order to reduce dependence on the number of migrants.
Putin proposed creating a new special center to effectively address migration-related issues. This center would work in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and economic departments.
"In the future, as the center matures, its activities can be organized as an independent department," he said.
Stressing that the issue of migration is very important and urgent for Russia, Putin expressed the need for cooperation and a systematic approach to solving problems related to labor migrants.
