Paris mosque imam calls for prayers for France

On January 10, Shams-Eddine Hafez, the head of the Grand Mosque of Paris, addressed the country's 150 imams. He asked them to include prayers for the peace and security of France at the end of their Friday sermons. Hafez suggested reciting the prayers in Arabic and French.

In the letter, he highlighted the Muslim community's program to adapt religious consciousness in France to the conditions of society. He also noted that other religions have been holding prayers for France for many years.

Islam is the second largest religion in France, within the framework of secular principles. The government plans to stop the practice of inviting imams from abroad.
